Why LVP Style Matters as Much as Performance

With so many LVP options on the market, it’s easy to get lost in the specs and forget about the most important thing: how the floor will look in your home. The right LVP should complement your walls, furniture, and natural light — and make your space feel cohesive and intentional.

Choosing the Right Plank Width

Plank width has a big impact on the overall feel of a room.

Color and Wood Tone

Light and Blonde Tones

Light LVP — think white oak, ash, or bleached wood looks — makes spaces feel bigger and brighter. It’s ideal for small rooms, north-facing rooms with limited light, and Scandinavian or coastal design styles. Light floors also hide dust easily (though pet hair shows more).

Medium and Natural Tones

Warm browns, honey tones, and natural oak shades are timeless crowd-pleasers. They work with virtually any décor and are forgiving when it comes to showing dirt and pet hair. A safe choice for most homes.

Dark and Rich Tones

Dark espresso, walnut, and charcoal tones create a dramatic, sophisticated look. They pair beautifully with light walls and furniture. Keep in mind: dark floors show dust, pet hair, and footprints more than lighter options.

Finish Types

Embossing and Texture

Better LVP features embossed-in-register (EIR) texture, where the grain texture aligns with the printed grain below. This creates a much more realistic, tactile feel. Wire-brushed and hand-scraped textures are popular for rustic and farmhouse looks.

Order Samples First

Colors look different on screen than in your actual space with your lighting, walls, and furniture. Always order samples and live with them for a day or two before committing. At Total Value Flooring, we offer free samples on most products — take advantage of that.
